Andrew Hamilton relocated to Nova Scotia from Thunder Bay in 2012. He holds a Masters of Science in a health related field, but fell in love with sailing and the water during his first months in the Maritimes. Andrew and his wife, Kelsey, enjoyed their first 3 years of sailing on board a J30, Groovin’, becoming instantly hooked before starting racing and cruising around Halifax, St Margaret’s Bay, and Mahone Bay. In 2016, they welcomed their son, Carman, to the crew. In early 2020, they found their new-to-them boat, Barrel Rider, a Beneteau First 310, that had suffered some damage during a hurricane. After extensive repairs, they sailed the boat from Mahone Bay, to the beautiful Bras D’Or Lake, Cape Breton, where she is a regular sight racing in Ben Eoin and cruising around the lakes. Andrew and Kelsey are avid racers in the local regattas and Wednesday night race scene, and Andrew volunteers extensively within the sailing community to promote increased opportunities for new sailors, specifically those, like himself, who are getting introduced to boating for the first time as adults. Living in Cape Breton, Andrew is excited to combine his love of boating with his musical talents from a past career as a music teacher and choir director when cruising, fitting in well with the unique culture and history of music, entertainment, and boating in Cape Breton. Andrew is excited to bring his passion of connecting new owners with boats they will enjoy and use through working with Ocean Yacht Sales.
