1988 Cape George Cutter

Conception Bay South, Newfoundland and Labrador

C$125,000

Minnehaha is a custom 36 ft.  Cape George cutter built by C.M. Lange, Washington, USA.  She is a typical William Atkin design having a slightly raked stem, relatively firm fore foot giving way to a 7/8 length keel.   She is rigged as a masthead Bermudan cutter with a mid aspect ratio carried on all spruce spars, and auxiliary power is provided by a 40 horse power 4 cylinder inline Mercedes/Nanni diesel engine.

Below she has the classic Cape George trademark features with laminated Port Orford cedar beams throughout. The interior jointer work is a combination of Teak, Mahogany and Port Orford Cedar.

Minnehaha is of superior construction using a blend of the most modern materials and laminating techniques, together with traditional ship building of the highest quality for the deck and cabin construction.

The hull is of sea kindly traditional shape, of well proven design, for distance blue water cruising vessels.  The heavy displacement nature of the vessel provides good directional stability, essential for long voyages, and a kindly motion which will prove easy on the crew.  The long keel / short overhang concept results in a protected rudder and long waterline for high average speeds.  Cape George yachts are noted for their strength and sea kindliness with excellent performance under sail even when heavily laden.

The mid aspect ratio cutter design, with provision for trysail, provides a considerable number of sail variations and combinations, and even in the most severe conditions, mast and rig loads do not become excessive.   For light winds, a single lightweight headsail on the headstay offers great performance going to windward and reaching.

The systems and equipment on board are relatively simple and straightforward, again essential for distance voyaging to ensure reliability/easy repair, if necessary.

This cutter is to be considered by those looking for the finest blue-water cruising vessel with traditional design.
